Access 2.0 starts when opening Access 7.0 databases due to wrong registry.
Cause:
This problem occurs when both Access 2.0 and 7.0 are running on the same computer, and Access 2.0 is installed after Access 7.0. When Access 2.0 is installed after 7.0, Access 7.0 databases are registered to open with Access 2.0 application file in the Windows registry.
Solution:
Edit the Windows registry so that Access 7.0 databases are opened with the Access 7.0 application file.
1) Open Windows Explorer:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' from the menu. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Windows Explorer' from the submenu. (The Exploring window appears.)
2) Select the 'View' menu and select 'Options...'. (The Options dialog box appears.)
3) Click the 'File Types' tab.
4) Select 'Microsoft Access Database Application' from the 'Registered file types' list box.
NOTE: Scroll the scroll bar downwards to locate the 'Microsoft Access Database Application' entry.
5) Click 'Edit...'. (The Edit File Type dialog box appears.)

6) Click 'Edit...' in the 'Edit File Type' dialog box. (The Edit action for type: Microsoft Access Database Application dialog box appears.)

7) Do one of the following to specify the path to the Access 7.0 application file MSACCESS.EXE:
a) Type the path and filename in the 'Application used to perform action' box.

b) Click 'Browse...':
1] Click 'Browse...'. (The Open With dialog box appears.)
2] Select the drive where Access 7.0 is installed from the 'Look in' drop-down list.

3] Select the folder that contains MSACCESS.EXE. (The file is displayed.)
NOTE: If the file is in a subfolder, continue selecting folders until the file is displayed.
4] Select the file. (The file is highlighted.)

5] Click 'Open'.
8) Clear the 'Use DDE' check box if it is selected.

9) Click 'OK' to close the 'Edit action for type: Microsoft Access Database Application' dialog box. (The Edit File Type dialog box reappears.)
10) Click 'Close' to close the 'Edit File Type' dialog box. (The Options dialog box reappears.)
11) Click 'Close' to close the 'Options' dialog box. (The Exploring window reappears.)
12) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to exit Windows Explorer.
